Cha In-Gye
Abstract
Objective: This research targets quadriplegia patients with swallowing dysfunction after stroke to find out the effect on how neurocognitive rehabilitation treatment affects internal and external sensory along with motor ability.

Methods: The research target was on a 70 years old male patient who was diagnosed with quadriplegia with right thalamic infarction and bilateral cerebellum. The patient was in the status of nasogastric tube and had damage on the internal and external sensory function and motor function in the oral. Neurocognitive rehabilitation treatment was applied on the target for 8 weeks. Reflux Symptom Index (RSI), Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability (MASA), and Gugging Swallowing Screen (GUSS) were used to measure before and after treatment.

Results: RSI score before the treatment was 28 points but changed to 14 points after treatment(p<.OI). MASA score was 146 before treatment and showed an increase to 170 points after treatment(p<.OO). Lastly, GUSS score before treatment was 2 and showed an increase to 5 points after treatment(p<.02).

Conclusion: Neurocognitive rehabilitation treatment showed significant effect on patients with swallowing dysfunction after stroke.
